Pollen Prevention Practices To Protect Your Prized Possession
Plants need pollen to survive; it’s their only means of reproduction. But for us humans, pollen can be a real nuisance, especially for our cars. At Lynch Ford Chevrolet, our service department can help you prepare your vehicle for pollen season with two simple steps.
Wax Coat
Pollen spreads mostly through the air and sticks to objects with tiny spikes, and you’ve probably seen the way it sticks to cars and leaves a thin coat of yellow dust. These little spikes probably won't damage your paint job (so long as you don't try to scrub off the pollen yourself, of course), but when mixed with water, the pollen becomes acidic, which can damage the paint over time. However, an application of wax to the vehicle’s exterior makes it much easier to wash off that pollen before it becomes a problem.
New Cabin Air Filter
Thankfully, modern vehicles come equipped with a cabin air filter (pictured above) that prevents pollen and other dust particles from getting inside the car. Unfortunately, this filter can become clogged over time. Just like the air filter in your home’s air conditioning system, it must be replaced periodically. (This can be especially important for passengers with allergies.) The good news is that cabin air filters are usually inexpensive and easy to replace.
Pollen season has finally arrived, so don’t delay. Contact our service department and schedule your pollen-prevention services soon!
