Who's It For?

The 2027 Ford Explorer is a natural fit for drivers who want the flexibility of three rows without stepping up to a full-size SUV. It offers generous cargo capacity, a standard 5,000-pound maximum towing capacity, available four-wheel drive, and a choice between a balanced 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine and a more powerful 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6. The Tremor is especially appealing to families who want to take their SUV beyond paved roads, while the ST brings a sportier character to everyday driving.

Tech-savvy drivers will appreciate the BlueCruise hands-free highway driving. The driver-facing camera monitors your attention, keeping you safe on road trips. Families will love the built-in 5G hotspot that lets you connect up to 10 devices. Having Alexa built in allows you to ask your Explorer for navigation naturally or to open an app.

Real World Performance

The 2027 Ford Explorer gives drivers two turbocharged powertrains with distinct personalities. The standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder produces 300 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque, providing strong everyday acceleration for commuting, merging, and carrying passengers and cargo. Rear-wheel-drive models are rated at up to 20 city/29 highway MPG, while four-wheel-drive models are rated at 20 city/27 highway MPG.

For drivers who want more power, the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 produces 385 horsepower and 415 lb.-ft. of torque. It is available with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive and gives the Explorer especially strong passing and merging performance. The V6 is also available in the Tremor, where four-wheel drive, all-terrain tires, off-road suspension tuning, and a TORSEN limited-slip rear axle make the SUV better suited for trails and rougher terrain.

Every Explorer can tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped, making it suitable for hauling recreational equipment, a small camper, or other towable gear. With up to 85.8 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the first row, the Explorer also provides plenty of room for luggage, groceries, sporting equipment, and other family necessities.
