Drive & Handling
Ford has embraced powerfully efficient powertrain options for the 2020 Ford Escape. The standard 1.5-liter EcoBoost® engine features Auto Start-Stop technology which automatically stops the engine and then starts it again when you take your foot off the brake. The standard 8-speed automatic transmission always finds the most efficient gear, too. Step up to the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine with the same Auto Start-Stop technology and you get a crossover that’s not only remarkably efficient, but it can also two up to 3,500 pounds, when properly equipped.
For those dedicated to truly reducing their carbon footprint, two hybrid options are available. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle powertrain is paired with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission and an 88 kW electric motor. The liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery features a streamlined design and helps the Escape achieve an amazing fuel economy. The final option is a Plug-In Hybrid with the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. As charging stations are becoming more proliferate throughout the nation, Plug-In Hybrid powertrains are becoming more practical and Lynch Ford Chevrolet isn’t surprised that Ford is at the forefront of this movement.
